My flash creative nonfiction piece, “Little Dipper,” has been published in Vol. 5 Issue 1 of Club Plum Literary Journal. This is the first piece of CNF I’ve published and my first Creative Writing publication in some years. I’m happy it’s found a home in a journal that offers “an ongoing literary conversation, a resonant entry into a beautiful or strange or dark place, depending on your offering.” That is the kind of conversation and place I always want to be part of. Club Plum also includes a song with each piece, which I love. All the works are short, so go check it out for a bit of inspiration in your day.
Set in the winter of ’02-’03, “Little Dipper” is the first in a series of vignettes inspired by the journals I kept from 2001-2009. Looking back from the perspective of 40, I wanted to pay tribute to this tender, tumultuous coming-of-age period. It’s a time when you wait for your “real” life to begin, wonder if anyone will ever love you, and have hours-long conversations with people you just met.
While this is some of the most personal writing I’ve ever done, my hope is that it resonates with you, wherever you are in your life.
